its a start.
not the destruction of the public service that the Dime party promotes. But a drop in the top tax rate means $$ for Dime.
Key said there would be cuts across the board.
Not sure how someone on WFF earning 40k a year and paying a thousand bucks in tax deserves a tax cut though!
Key will be half way through his term when the cuts are announced, lets hope they dont take a year to come in!
Lets home he goes nuts in his second term and acts like a REAL centre right PM.

"He is saying tough. My backers own property. We won. You lost. Eat that.
He is saying, I don't like the activity of investing in property to avoid paying taxes, but I'm not brave enough to challenge them or convince them what is in their best long term interests.
He has finally shown his colours. He is a mediocre leader without the vision or the ability to change New Zealand. He is a seat-warmer who is too scared to scare the masses.
He is saying he wants to get re-elected. How uninspiring. How pedestrian.
He is saying he is a not a real leader. He is saying he will follow his followers.
What happens when the baby-boomers who voted him in start complaining about how they can't watch their grandkids grow up in New Zealand? Who will deliver the tough message?
Not John Key."
Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately the alternative was worse.

People like Bernard Hickey have a major advantage over politicians.
They can say what they think and there is little or no backlash. Publicity is the only important ingredient.

He is totally right. NZ's economy needs a structural shift, and this just doesnt do it.

Personally I think Hickey has overreacted and is a little naive. Does he really think a change to the tax rules is going to suddenly make property affordable? Changing the tax rules will do little to control the price of housing. It would perhaps cause a small blip where people will react to the policy but soon the market will take over again. Residential property is largely a mugs game. With capital gains drying up people will soon realise this, move to other investments and property will continue its natural cycle.
