BREAKING NEWS: Peter Ingram has been dropped from the Black Caps for today’s fourth one-day international against Australia in Auckland.
The opening batsman’s struggles have finally cost him his place.
The technique of the unorthodox right-hander, who uses little footwork, has been exposed by the Australian bowling attack.
Coach Mark Greatbatch hinted at changes to the top order yesterday and Ingram has been a casualty.
He has left the Black Caps squad and will play for the Central Stags tomorrow in their Plunket Shield match against the Wellington Firebirds.
It seems likely that Martin Guptill will open the innings with New Zealand needing to win at Eden Park to keep the five-match series alive. Australia leads 2-1.
Meanwhile Daryl Tuffey and James Franklin undertook fitness tests yesterday. Subject to further testing today, and undergoing their normal warm up routine comfortably, both should be available for selection for today’s match.
