We recently received a wedding invitation from my cousin and his wife to be, they also enclosed their bank account number, basically saying.... we don't want any presents, we would rather you give us money towards our honeymoon.

Christ, I'd never have the cheek to say that, I would be grateful for any present received on the day.

Ive been to weddings where it says "just give cash for new house/honeymoon etc", and also an internet register when you make a donation to them (internet host must take a cut).

This just cuts that sh*t out.

Id rather have $$$$$ than 4 toasters and 10 sets of wine glasses.

How much is your cousin worth? Thats the decision now.

Hes one of those cousin's you only get to see once in a blue moon, true the moneys better than ending up with half a dozen toasters, but as I said its not my style I wouldn't have the cheek to ask... we were thinking of going, but since we received their invitation they can get stuffed.

Yeah, giving someone a Farmers Voucher is a great idea... also that way they can avoid getting a toaster

To me it wouldn't matter how well I got on with a certain cousin, if they ask for money it puts you off straightaway.

We had both at ours, we had an online register, and one of the items on the register was cash for the honeymoon as we had both just graduated and hadn't started working so had not much money. Meant people like signman who felt awkward just giving cash could get a gift (most did) and we got around $1000 spending money.
Worked out great.

Mate, its got nothing to do with being mean or feeling awkward it is just straight out bloody rudeness

At least at your wedding you gave people the option.

Fair enough. We actually debated even having it in their because we felt it was slightly rude, but really it was what we needed the most, and it was our day, so on it went.

I can certainly understand the money was a big help at the time, very fair point.

The huge diff was you gave people the option... my dickhead cousin didn't.
