This is about where he belongs - Assistant Coach of a second rate side after his miserable failure with Toulon when he was allowed to buy almost any player in the world.

Wait and see on this one; maybe he's back among folks who understand him, where he's coming from, and he can find that bit of magic  he used to have, and instill it into the Steelers . . . maybe!

Oh well, the Frenchies who hired him are idiots then aren't they. He's a player, not yet a coach.

For some reason they must have thought that just because Umaga was an average player, he could be a great coach....

Harsh call. He was hardly an average player...

The man is not on the books to coach or play, even though he will do both.

He is there to put bums on seats and hopefully retain talent that drifts off to Auckland and elsewhere.

Based on recent form, Counties are one of the more likely candidates to get the flick when the current hiatus on the Air NZ Cup cull is over.

Thinking outside the square is urgently called for, because a history of relying on maturation of a huge youth talent pool has not worked.

That said, hopefully the Counties administrators haven't relied on Umage as their single silver bullet.

The combo of Umaga and Kingsley Jones will save Counties from oblivion.
